A
LARGE IMARI PORCELAIN CHARGER
Edo period circa 1700 AD
Japan
The charger is dramatically decorated with a single
scene of a carp leaping into a waterfall amongst
flowering plants, rockwork and clouds. The under
glaze blue is two toned and expertly controlled
in the firing. The iron red and gold are applied
over the glaze - both in very good condition, which
gives the dish a vibrancy that complements the design.
The reverse is decorated on the sides with three
sprigs of flowers depicting chrysanthemums, plum
blossoms and peonies.
Diameter: 21 ½" / 24.5 cm
