Of rectangular form, the table tops are supported by a waisted apron above four square section straight legs that terminate in a hoof-shaped foot. They are painted overall in a dark brown lacquer, with gilded designs on a red base – the latter showing through in parts to create a three-colour design. Their tops are decorated with three shaped panels depicting birds amongst flowering plants – against a fretwork ground; these are all bordered by a rectangular frame, divided by shaped panels containing flower sprays – against a diaper ground. The waisted apron is cut out with elongated oval openings – each centered by an openwork scrolling triangle. Painted scrolling leaves, lotus and camellia flowers decorate the lower section of the apron and the legs; the latter are strengthened by open fretwork corner brackets and the sides by single high stretchers. Being made from softwood, the tables are light and, therefore, easy to transport.
