AN UNGLAZED TERRACOTTA AND WHITE SLIP MODEL OF A
MYTHICAL BEAST
Han dynasty

The striding beast - sometimes referred to as a
rhinoceros - bears three horns that descend from
the forehead and down the neck. Along its back are
three round knobs in relief. The creature faces
down as if about to attack - with bared teeth and
raised tail pointing forward. Above the front legs
at the shoulders are closed wings.
Length: 13 ½" / 34.5 cm
