The inside of the dish is carved as an open chrysanthemum flower – with three concentric circles of deeply and precisely carved petals that create a rhythm of form, light and shade; the outside is carved with a single vertical row of convex petals. The dish sits on a circular foot ring – the centre of its base marked with a four-character wheel cut Qianlong mark of the period.

Similar example: Chinese Art Series, Works of Art section, volume 9: ‘Jades’ – page 176 illustrates the same design of spinach green jade dish; it is thinner in manufacture and, according to the text, influenced by Mogul jade work that was fashionable in the 18th century.
