A 'dreamstone' table screen and hardwood stand

Qing dynasty, 19th century, China

height: 104.8 cm
length: 116.2 cm
Depth: 45.5 cm

This rectangular white marble panel is figured with areas of dark and light grey and veining in green – creating a natural composition in which one might imagine snow capped peaks or waves crashing over rocks. The panel is mounted in a simple but substantial hardwood frame that slots into the two grooved uprights of the stand – the waisted shaped sides resting on the two cross rails of the base.
